The Department of Paediatric Hematology and Oncology is focused on:

• Comprehensive diagnostical and therapeutical service for children and adolescents with malignant diseases.



• Diagnosis and therapy of non-malignant blood disorders in children.



• Education of basic and special oncology in children and adults, education of pre- and postgraduate hematology. Postgraduate study in molecular biology.
  
  
• Acute complications and late effects during oncological treatment in children, high-dose chemotherapy.



• Hematopoetic stem cell transplantation in children with malignant diseases, blood and metabolic disorders, and severe immunodeficiency.



• Molecular detection of diagnostic and prognostic; significant factors and minimal residual disease; ex-vivo manipulation with hematologic stem cell grafts. Cancer immunology.



• The DPHO participates in international studies of childhood tumors. The Department is also an investigating site for many grants, including grants with international participation. It is the main adjudicator for research projects of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.
